History:
Burlington County first Aid Council History
It all began in an old fire hall in Browns Mills when one evening in 1947 the Burlington County First Aid Council became a reality from the minds of a few volunteers who got together with an idea of uniting the organizations in the county who were offering volunteer first aid service to the residents of the their community.
Through the efforts of the council’s first president, Earl Arey of the America Emergency Squad, the council became a reality. Then in August of 1950 many other squads joined the ranks of the council. They were America, Vincentown, Endeavor, Roebling, Medford, Beverly, Riverside, Palmyra, Delanco, Browns Mills, Delran, and Mansfield. Trustees of organization were: James Coverly, William Woolston, Eleanor Dias, Nelson Bennett, and Wilmer S. Carty. The council was incorporated on the 31st of August, 1950.
Over the years the organization has experienced growth in not only means of improving the first aid service in the county, but also in training their member volunteers with a state recognized training school.
Probably one of the greatest programs to be accepted in the county for training volunteers in the first aid service, the Burlington County First Aid Academy has produced many, many volunteers ready to serve their community.
Now with a total membership of forty one squads, every squad in Burlington County, the Emergency Service Training Center is continuing to actively train the county squads.
